:: Government can't handle managing health care

Universal health care is on everyone's mind but before we look to the government for solutions, we should look at the track record of that government.

I realize we need government to supply essential services such as police and fire protection, libraries, etc. We also need reliable levees (oops), safe bridges (oops), CIA and FBI to track terrorists (oops), and an agency to handle our Social Security trust fund (oops). Also a Medicare Part D prescription plan (oops). Need a passport? (oops). Remember Walter Reed Hospital? (oops).

The Bureau of Indian Affairs was created to protect native Americans from scam artists. Millions of dollars are missing from the government trust fund for mining and oil royalties (oops). The oil industry is the most heavily regulated business in the USA, yet oil is the only commodity in which there is a shortage (oops).

Any government agency that actually achieves its goals is sure to be the target of budget cuts while those that fail will be bailed out by Congress with more funding, more employees, office space, promotions, bonuses, known as empire-building. (oops).

Since government is the only entity in the world that rewards failure, the further we keep government away from health care, the better off we will be.
